About me

My name is Iva Roncevic and I am currently teaching senior English in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs in Victoria. My expertise lies in VCE English and I’m committed to making my classes engaging and enjoyable for all students.

I have worked in schools in Western Australia, and London in the United Kingdom, and for the past 15 years, I have been teaching in Melbourne, Victoria.

I am passionate and love what I do and success to me is not the number of students that achieve a perfect study score or how many were able to get a score over 40, it is about celebrating the success of each individual student and encouraging them to achieve their best possible result knowing that I believed in them.

I decided to start this blog one night while lying in bed during the summer holidays, thinking about how to make the learning experience more accessible for my students. How can I be there for them, without physically being there?

I’m one of those people that learns through step-by-step written instruction. Rather than watching online videos and tutorials which I lose interest in very quickly (I did not enjoy online teaching, I lost interest just as fast as my students did) I put this blog together through guessing and looking up written instructions because for me it’s easier. I know that online videos may be the way of the future, but for me, I like to go through things at my own pace and have written instructions that I can refer to at my leisure. It is how I learn, there is no need to press pause or to disturb those around me with the sound coming from videos. I may one day explore that avenue, but baby steps for me. Let me get this right first.

So for now I’m putting together advice and resources for Year 11 and 12 students. It’s not specific to texts being taught just yet (although I may refer to them as evidence and examples when explaining how to approach a task), but it is specific to outcomes and SACs that you will be completing. As I get better at this, I will continue to develop resources that are more general to writing but also the middle years.

It is a work in progress for me, so I’m happy to take on feedback and suggestions. Just like my students, I need it to make my work better. Feel free to share with other students. Teachers, feel free to use and adapt to your own teaching, but also if you do use anything, just out of courtesy acknowledge my work.

Feel free to contact me through the comments on this page or email me at ivaroncevic78@gmail.com for any feedback and suggestions for what information you’d like to see on this blog.
